Happy February! This is actually one of my favorite months of the year. We’re far enough away from the holidays and the arrival of the new year that things are (mostly) settled and in a routine, and now it really feels like new things are starting! February is usually also a really busy month in our house, with birthdays, holidays and lots of school happenings. But mainly, it’s a month of love, that I truly enjoy so I thought I’d share a few of my February favorites!
My Boys’ Birthdays
Although there have been years where it has stressed me out more than others, it is kind of nice that the both of the boys have birthdays in February. This year is a low-stress one for us because no one is having birthday parties (yay!). But we do get to have 3 celebrations, each boy gets one on their actual birthday and then they get a celebration in between because their grandparents are coming to visit.
With all of these celebrations we’ve got a whole lot of character cakes (Catboy, Storm Troopers & Kermit the Frog) and some fun presents I know they’ll love. Dylan is getting lots of Star Wars goodness and Jackson is getting his highly-coveted Nintendo Switch Lite. We also picked up these masks for Dylan to take to his friends at school with his PJ Masks cupcakes!
Notice I said snowy days and not “snow days,” and all parents know that there is a difference! My opinion is that if it is going to be cold, it had better be snowing. We had the prettiest, snowy day here on Saturday and, even though we didn’t go anywhere or do anything, it was peaceful-feeling and even made us a little happier to see the snow falling.
Valentine’s Day + Mardi Gras
Clint and I never really do much to celebrate (we’re getting these “for each other” this year), but Valentine’s Day with the kids has become so much fun! I love helping them with their boxes for school and the treats take for their friends (more to come on that later this week!). I’m also totally the mom that buys new shirts for every holiday, so we’ve got this one and this one ready for the boys.
We also love celebrating Mardi Gras in our house. Every year I make a King Cake and we do some sort of New Orleans-themed dinner with gumbo, jambalaya or étouffée. It’s always just a fun thing to do that we started when we lived in Houston and have carried with us here to Michigan!
Spring Break Countdown
We also get to move into major planning mode for Spring Break! We are, of course, going to Disney, so honestly most of our planning is already close to done. But I am hoping that we get in to a couple of new restaurants that we want to try! This time we’re planning to check out Star Wars Land and even make some droids!
And clearly I’ve already started shopping/outfit planning for this, so I’m definitely already looking forward to going!
