I have made a decision. I am declaring this summer “The Summer of the Dress!”
I’ve been doing a lot of dress shopping lately because I’ve made a style decision for the summer that instead of reaching for my usual yoga pants, I am going to try and grab an easy-to-wear dress instead. I’d like to feel a little more put together when we’re going to swim lessons, for work or even dropping Jackson off at camp.
As you know, I go in and out of these “yoga pants funks” fairly often and I’m totally in one right now. It’s fairly easy to do when you work from home and spend your weekends chasing kids. I think it has a bit to do with the rainy and cold part of spring seemingly lasting forever around here. We’ve hardly even had a chance to get out and shoot outdoor photos for the blog because we’ve been rained out so many times.
It’s also been a bit to do with being so busy that I haven’t made time for myself, which is something I’d like to work on a bit. I know I can make time to do my hair, throw on a stitch of makeup and would like to do that more often. I also know that doing this will make me a happier person and then I’ll do everything else better.
The other thing I want to work on is not worrying about something happening to what I’m wearing, so therefore not wearing it at all. There’s really no need to save clothes for a special occasion, every day is a great occasion! I’m trying to repeat to myself “today is a good day to have a good day” every morning and do things that make me have a great start to each and every day. Getting dressed for the day I want to have, for me, is a big part of that.
So let’s talk quickly about some good options I’ve found for dressing for the day you want to have! The best summer dresses are super easy and flattering with little to no work, so that’s what I’m naturally gravitating towards right now. The BURU dress I’m wearing in this post looks fancy but I’d actually easily throw it on any day of the week with sandals and run errands or something. I even saw Morgan from BURU post it as something she wore when traveling a while back. You could also pair it with a cute, colorful belt to add something else to it, or try some fancy earrings and dress it up for an event or date night.
