Truth be told, I meant to post this WAY earlier in the week, but we really hit the ground running with work and I just finally got a chance to finish up this post (and a couple of others). A week or so ago, I posted a few post ideas on Instagram, and this was the one that most people were excited to see, and I’m glad because it was one I was most excited to put together! I’m not making “resolutions” this year like I have in previous years. Instead I’m finding things that I want to do better or change and making that part of my daily life.
So, without further ado, here are 19 things I want to do in 2019….
Learn // I’ll admit it, I’m in a rut as far as this is concerned. I want to keep learning to grow my business and just my all-around knowledge of things around me. To do this, I want to commit to doing 2 things a month to learn. In my mind, this could be webinars, conferences, listening to podcasts, etc. Just taking dedicated time to focus on something new, take notes and learn to implement something into my life.
Create a Website for My Marketing Company // Yes, we work almost completely in the digital space and do not have a website. Fortunately we’ve been busy with client work but that’s prevented us from taking the time to do our own site. My goal is to actually get this done in Q1 of 2019 – along with official business cards!
Stay Positive // I saw this thing on Instagram where when you put a piece of rotten fruit next to a good one, that it will take over and rot that piece, as well. I feel like toward the end of the year I got myself into some negative thinking and would like to avoid it more this year. I also want to look for the good in situations, people and things, and push myself to think positively in more situations.
Do Yoga // If you’ve been here a while, you know that spinning is my absolute favorite workout. Well, yoga is a close second. I’ve always enjoyed it and I was super excited with Peloton added yoga to their suite of classes in December. I’ve done a few classes so far and I just love it. My goal is to do yoga at least twice a week (hopefully more!), in addition to my spin classes. I like how strong it makes me feel, how centered it makes me feel and I know it’s good for me, so I want to be good at it!
Disconnect // Haven’t you seen everyone say this lately? Less phone time, etc. We are also terrible about this and are going to work on it. We set up a charging station in our bedroom and plan on putting our phones up there as soon as the boys get home from school. I’ve also started a bad habit of putting my phone right on the edge between my mattress and box spring so I can just check it if I wake up in the middle of the night. BAD. We’re also not going to allow tablets for the kids during the week, and no more shows during dinner time.
One thing we’ve been doing on vacations has been using our phones for photos and videos and then posting later, during naps. And this has made me enjoy the trips so much more! So I hope to make this practice more of an everyday one rather than an “on vacation” one.
Get Dressed // This is another one I struggle with. I’ll throw on clothes in the morning to take Dylan to school and then just stay in my mismatched workout clothes until I work out and then throw on new mismatched workout clothes. I have a closet full of clothes and I wear next to none of them on a daily basis. Last year when I met Lori Caplin, I was inspired to focus on my daily wardrobe more but then life got crazy and I put it on the back burner. I’d like to renew my focus on this and dress for the day I want to have – and I do not want to have a mismatched workout clothes day every day!
Find a Hobby // I’ve said that shopping is my hobby but I’m pretty sure I can find one that is a little more worthwhile. I want to do something that inspires me to be creative, and something I can relax doing and enjoy. The thing I’ve been gravitating towards is hand lettering. My mom got me a starter book and pens to get me started, so I’m excited to get into that!
Read // I love to read! The problem is that I never do it. My goal in 2019 is to read one book a month. I have already started filling up my Amazon cart with a few books and will share them as I get to reading them!
Start a Garden with My Kids // This could fall under the hobby category but this is just something I really want to do. We had a garden area built onto our patio last year but didn’t get around to planting it. I think this would be such a fun thing to do with Jackson and Dylan – and it might even motivate Dylan to eat some vegetables for once!
Go Somewhere New // We do a summer vacation every year with the boys and every year we try a new place. We did Sarasota two years ago and Toronto last year, so I want to find a new spot to try this year!
Declutter + Downsize // We have too much stuff. Plain and simple. Right now, I plan to take one room a week and declutter it, getting rid of things that we haven’t used in months (and probably never will). I also plan on taking on my closet and really being honest about what I will wear, won’t wear and downsize my closet. I do really want to shop less and be more thoughtful about purchases. You’ll see that change here on the blog too!
Set Goals + Grow My Businesses // My goal in this first quarter of 2019 is to really set some solid goals for my businesses (my agency and the blog). I bought a goal-setting planner to help get me going with this. I also want to get really into the numbers and analyze where I can do better on things across both businesses.
Paint My Nails // I’m TERRIBLE at this! I love how my nails look when they’re painted and I found a great nail girl and I want to start to be more consistent about either going to see her or painting my own nails. Excuse the pun but I feel more polished when they’re done and I like that feeling!
Focus on Nutrition // Starting a workout routine is super easy for me (thank you Peloton), but I really struggle with my diet. Last year I was able to successfully minimize my dairy intake and it made me feel so much better. This year, I want to take a look at my diet and work on minimizing sugar and eating more whole foods. I’m also contemplating intermittent fasting as a way to be healthier – so if you’ve done it, I’d love to hear!
Volunteer // I’m a Junior League member but haven’t really been very dedicated to the League the last couple of years. I’m hoping to get a little more involved in that, as well as find another organization or two where I can volunteer at least once every other month. I’d like to do more but I don’t want to commit to something I can’t actually do successfully. Baby steps!
Clean Up // I would like to focus on being a little more environmentally-conscious and integrate more clean products into our lives. After we went to Canada last year, it inspired us to be better about recycling and we’ve done a great job of that. I’d like to focus on creating less waste in our home in general, along with buying more healthy, natural products to clean and exist in our home.
Date Nights // Clint and I have been talking about once monthly date nights forever and I’d really like to make that happen. By the time the weekend comes, we’re so tired and don’t feel like going out but we are always glad when we actually do.
Take a Break // For the first time in a long time, I took a legit 7 days off of work over Christmas and New Year’s. While it gave me some anxiety, my team and I had prepped the business to be closed and I felt really good about not rushing back from the Disney parks to answer E-mails or worry about blog stuff. I’d like to do that again this year, including taking time off for Spring Break, the 4th of July and the occasional Friday when i just need a day off. It’s worth the mental downtime to make me a better business owner, boss, friend, parent, etc.
Blog Refresh // Things around here are going to change! Why? Because life has changed and so have I. I didn’t expect the growth in my marketing business like I’ve had in the last 18 months and I’m so thankful for it. The blog has taken a back seat to that business but I really feel that I can do both and do them well if I change the way I work.
For the longest time, I’ve felt that I needed to post every single day here on the blog but when I do that, my content suffers. I’m not going to push myself to write 5 days a week when it doesn’t make sense. I’m shooting for quality over quantity from now on, so it may be 2 days, it may be 5 days. It’ll just depend on what I have to say and what I think you all will like and relate to.
I’m not going to be as much about the outfits anymore, I want to be about the content. My clothes are fine, but I think I can contribute more to your lives than what I wear. My goal is for the outfit to be secondary, but to really focus on talking about real things. I will be doing “everyday outfits” posts 1-2 times a week showing what I actually wear and providing links. These will be super short and sweet, with not a ton of writing, but just to keep the style element going here on the blog.
I want to do more in the way of things I’m passionate about like skincare, healthy living and family. So I hope you’ll enjoy a bit more in some other categories. I’m also going to be VERY picky about the sponsored content I take on this year, so you may see that change a bit. It’s an essential part of this business but I want to do a better job of putting those posts together so you can see how and why I’ve taken the partnership.
I also hope to open up a bit more on Instagram and actually TALK showing my face! I get a little insecure about it when I’m in mismatched workout clothes with crazy hair, but surely you all have those days too, right? I’d like to share more about myself, my business and what I’m doing as a working mom and wife.
What are you all hoping to do more of this year?
