One of the great perks about The Blog Societies Conference that I didn’t mention yesterday was the great location! It was hosted at The Hotel at Avalon in this really cute Avalon development outside of Atlanta. It’s a mixed use retail/residential development with stores like Apple, Anthropologie and Drybar and lots of restaurants, a movie theater and so much more. I got up early on the first day of the conference to ride the Peloton in the hotel gym and then visit Drybar to get my hair done, and it was so great to walk around in the quiet and see everything.
I also got to take these photos with Colleen, who was the photographer for the entire event. It was fun to walk around with her and find some locations for what are probably going to be a few of the last summery outfits you’ll see here on the blog.
I bought this green dress from BURU when they were in town for a pop up shop at the end of July and it became available to shop early last week! It was something that I planned on wearing for the conference and then occasionally after, but then Morgan posted something on Instagram the other day that really struck me.
How many times have you said “I love it but where would I wear it?” Me too. And while I love Morgan’s perspective on all things fashion, this one really gave me more of a moment to pause because even though I had bought the same dress, I had that same thought “After the conference where would I wear it?”
I get caught in a “I’m a mom in leggings” rut just like anyone else and I will definitely catch myself thinking about what other people will think if I show up to a Junior League meeting or school pickup all “dressed up.” But there’s really no reason why. If I wear a dress, or wear something bright or unique, I find that I stand a little straighter and feel a bit more confident, and I think that shows, whether you’re grocery shopping or going to a meeting or even on a date with your significant other.
I’ve been doing some fall shopping over the last week too and it has gotten me thinking even more as I choose things. Instead of thinking “…but where would I wear it?” If I love something I think of a few places I’ll feel great wearing it. Add. To. Cart.
So let’s take this dress, for example. We have Meet the Teacher night at both schools for the boys next week, so I could easily wear it to that. I may change it up by wearing the belt with it and doing some strappy flats (Dylan is in an “I want to be held at all times” phase and it makes heels challenging) and earrings that are a little bit more simple. Or maybe I’ll wear it to a baseball game in a couple of weeks. The team color is actually green, so it could be a great way to do game day.
I got a bit inspired to think outside of the box and put my clothes to good use. No matter what your budget, you pay good money for your clothing and you shouldn’t have to save it for a special occasion. Get out your favorite dress, wear it and feel your best no matter where you’re going!
