National Lipstick Day

Happy National Lipstick Day! I told you I was into these little “calendar” days lately back on National Tequila Day, so it was a fun coincidence that two of them were within a week of each other. I wanted to share three different lipstick looks with you for today’s post and I picked out a few things from Neiman Marcus at the Somerset Collection to share with you.

First up, when it comes to everyday beauty, I keep things pretty simple. On most days, it’s CC cream, powder, a little highlighter, mascara and a light lip color. This AERIN Lip Conditioner is the perfect, pretty pink and it adds just the slightest bit of color to your lips. It also makes your lips feel really nice but quite possibly the best thing about it is the rose scent! It smells so pretty and that makes it feel 1000x more luxurious and feminine and perfect.

To step it up just a little bit more, I wanted to teach you one of my favorite little lipstick makeup tricks. I use an illuminating pencil as part of my makeup routine to brighten my undereye. I’ll just put it right on my waterline and it lifts and brightens. It also works really well on your brows AND on your lips.

This little trick is great for lining your lips without a “liner line,” and keeps lip color from streaking or bleeding. But it also helps brighten the area around your lips for a more fuller and naturally defined look. So, the photo below is step 1, where you’ll line the outside of your lips with the Bobbi Brown Retoucher pencil in Illuminate. Note that I’ve clearly not blended it in this photo, but that is intentional to show how it is lined!

Then you’ll use a BeautyBlender to blend in the pencil and smudge that line so it isn’t quite as harsh. I’ve found that I prefer a nearly dry BeautyBlender with this product. I’ll use a damp one for concealer and such, but for some reason, VERY lightly damp or mostly dry seems better for this trick.

Last step is filling in your lips with your lip color. I love the Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color formula. It’s super smooth when you apply it, and it’s a great, comfortable long-wear matte. It comes in a lot of pretty pinks, nudes and neutrals so you’ll easily be able to find one you like.

And if you want to go bold, this Armani Lip Magnet is the way to do it! The Vibes colors in this collection are rich and bright and great for making a statement. In the bottle this one looks much more red than it does on, as you can see. After we shot these photos I had to take Jackson to swim lessons and run some errands and, even though I was in workout clothes at that point, I got so many compliments on this color.

Also, if you want a great strong product that lasts, this is it. It lasted all day after shooting these photos and I’ve worn it a few times since and it’s another really comfortable, long-wearing formula. I have typically stayed away form long-wear products because I’ve always thought they were TOO matte and TOO drying, but this is very different.

I hope you all take a minute to join in the celebration on National Lipstick Day and treat yourself to a little shopping and at least a new lipstick! All of these are available at Neiman Marcus at the Somerset Collection, so if you’re local, head over there and try something new!
