Shop Your Closet January: Week 1

This week I was NOT so good about my “getting dressed” resolution. I blame that primarily on being sick since Sunday. I’ve felt like crap all week, so getting dressed, putting on makeup and just about anything else was not a huge priority for me. I have a few outfits to share with you though, and some updates on how this “shop your closet” project is going for me.

Things I Did

Took clothes to the dry cleaners // After the holiday break, we had quite a pile of dry cleaning in our closet. Because I’m in “clean out mode” I wanted to get a better idea of what I actually have, what I need to get rid of and what I might actually need to buy. So, I made sure to catch up on laundry this week, along with taking things to the cleaners. Once I pick everything up, I’ll get it all on the right hangers (anyone else really hate dry cleaning hangers?) and re-evaluate.

Took clothes to the alterations lady // I almost always have a “to be hemmed” pile in my closet. Call it short girl problems, if you will, but there’s always something that needs to be tailored just a bit. So I took a few things to my alterations lady for both length and waist alterations, so that way I can actually wear them!

Cleaned Out // If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen that I did a little closet sale. The items are still up right now, if you are at all interested, and I also have had a Poshmark closet open forever but sales have slowed and all of these “to sell/donate” piles are getting on my nerves. So, in an attempt to clean and simplify things around here, it’s all going to be donated on Monday. And that’s probably just the beginning.

Over the next week, I want to get my closet organized (by color/style!)  and anything I haven’t worn in a year or two is probably heading to be donated, as well. I want to keep what I’m actually wearing and continue to give more thought to what I’m purchasing.

What I Wore

I did a photo shoot for Ferne Boutique this week and wore this outfit to do that and then I came home and worked for a few hours before taking Jackson to Taekwondo. Yes, it’s still technically an athleisure look, but hey I’m sick, so this is what we went with!

Lululemon Pants // Zella Top (I really love this shirt!) // UGG Amie Boots // Kate Spade Earrings

When I did my photo shoot on Monday, I also bought this sweater at Ferne. I wore it to a coffee meeting with my friend Leslie and then to take Jackson to Taekwondo again.

Ferne Boutique Sweater // Banana Republic Jeans // Missoma London Rings (1 and 2) // Tory Burch Loafers // Kate Spade Earrings

I have a meeting this afternoon and this is what I am putting on this morning to wear to that. It was inspired by Meghan Markle’s outfit earlier this week! I told you I’m having such a royal wedding obsession lately, I just can’t help it!

J.Crew Pants // Splendid Turtleneck // Anthropologie Coat (old, similar) // Rag and Bone Booties // Scarf // Missoma London Rings (1 and 2)

Have you all been working on cleaning out your closets this month? Let me know if you have any tips and tricks for organizing! I’m going to get started on that next week.
