Sarah Fechter Fitness Camp: Mid-Camp Update

This is week 5 of spring fitness camp at Sarah Fechter Fitness, so I thought we were due for a little mid-camp update! My camp experience has been really positive so far and I’m very glad to be doing it. A lot of the workouts have been new to me and things I would not do on my own, and I think that’s been good for me!

What I’ve Liked Best

My absolute favorite workouts so far have been the circuits, which we usually do on Mondays. Circuit workouts seem to go by so fast, you’re doing something different all the time and they really get me focused during the early morning workout time. We do things like sit-ups with weighted balls, carrying 25 lb. water jugs, work with dumbbells and some sprints. I love the variety and the challenge. 

I also really have found that I like working out outside. Although getting out of bed is tough (see the next section), I’ve really liked that, by mid-workout, the sun is coming up and it just puts me in a good mood to start my day. 

The Hardest Part

The hardest part of camp so far has been getting into the routine of waking up early. I get up at 5:00 so I can get ready, grab a snack and head to camp (which is about 10 minutes from my house). I have to admit that there have been some mornings where I just wanted to stay in bed. But it has been my goal to attend every workout I can (I missed 2 when I was sick and 2 while on vacation), so I have gotten out of bed and, when that workout is done, I’ve been so thankful that I did it. I’m hoping to keep morning workouts as part of my routine after camp ends. 

The hardest workouts for me have been the track workouts where we’ve had to do things like crab walks and bear crawls on the track. I just don’t seem to have a ton of flexibility in my shoulders and hips anymore so sometimes those activities aren’t super easy for me. 

My Results So Far

I have not weighed myself as of yet and I don’t think I will until camp is over at at the end of June. I’m really trying not to let weight be my goal, but rather I want my clothes to fit well and to just feel confident. So, with that, I was pretty excited that I just purchased my first pair of size 26 shorts for the first time in about two years. That was my pre-pregnancy size and I wasn’t sure that those shorts would work but I was really happy when they did, it’s a good feeling!

As far as fitness level, I really do feel like I am getting more in shape. I’ve found some of the activities at camp, particularly running, to be getting easier as the weeks go on. I’ve found that I can do more reps during circuits than in week 1 and I just feel stronger overall.

There are a couple of weeks left to go and then I’ll be doing some “after” photos and I’ll weigh myself and give you all of those updates.     I think it’s awesome that you’re not weighing yourself; when I do work out regularly I’m usually focused on getting stronger not losing weight but I still get super bummed out when the scale doesn’t change haha.
