With this weekend being the sort of official kickoff to summer, we are excited to get outside and spend some time. I saw a survey that was shared by TruGreen that said that, during the summer, homebodies become “yardbodies” and spend an average of 12 hours a week in their yards. I’d have to say that we absolutely fall into that category. We love spending time at home and we get outside as much as we can.
One of the biggest renovation projects with our home actually took place outside. Our yard was a disaster when we moved in. It was patchy, full of weeds and just very unloved and uncared for.
As we get into year 3 of our new yard, it’s become even more enjoyable to spend time outside. The grass has become fuller and softer and it really makes our house look even better! Plus, with two little kids, we’re enjoying letting them run around, tire themselves (and us) out and do what we all love outdoors:
Playtime
It’s all about playtime right now for the boys! We are working on quite a collection of outdoor toys including a new bounce house, tee ball set and some water toys. We’re so thankful to have the space to let everyone run around and play with friends, while the grown ups enjoy snacks and drinks on the patio.
S’Mores
Along with a new lawn, a patio with a fire pit was the best addition to the new yard. I can’t get enough s’mores and Jackson never argues with having a little treat on a weekend night. This year, hopefully Dylan will get to try his first one, as well!
Green Thumbs
We planted a couple of small patio planters to start testing out our green thumbs this summer. Jackson has already done some harvesting of our strawberry plants and we’re hoping to see some tomatoes pop up soon in our salsa garden.
What are you most looking forward to this summer? Are you “yardbodies” like us?

This is so fun! My husband and I just got a puppy and we’ll be spending a lot more time in our yard because of it! So exciting – your yard looks so great!
