Winter Skincare Favorites

As I mentioned a week or so ago, I’ve been trying lots of new products over the last couple of months and I’m excited to share them with you because I have several good ones to recommend!

Even though the weather around here has been relatively mild so far this winter, I’ve still found myself changing up my skincare routine for the season. Most of those changes are products that add more moisture, or just overall make my skin feel smoother and softer.

Body Care

So, in the interest of full disclosure, Aveda sent me these Candrima products for a holiday gift back in December and I had been saving them for a night where I had a little extra time to take a nice quiet shower, paint my nails and just get a little at home spa feeling going on. And, surprise surprise, that never happened. I do that with products and with clothes all the time. I need to learn to stop waiting for a special occasion but rather to just make a normal day into a special occasion!

I was at the salon a few weeks ago (which is an Aveda Lifestyle Salon), telling my stylist that I had them but hadn’t used them and she said “You need to go home and try them TONIGHT because you will love them!” And she was right. Now I use them probably every other night and really love the soothing scent. The Candrima Cleansing Oil is really smooth and light. It doesn’t foam up but it still really moisturizing – it’s perfect for winter cleansing. The moisturizer is pretty thick and, to be honest, I’ve usually been using it on my arms and upper body just so that I don’t run out of it!

The Aveda Hand Relief cream is not really a new thing to me, but I’ve just been trying to use it more consistently lately. It’s a very mild scent and is huge on moisture. I use it every night before going to bed and it is a favorite!

Facial Care

I’m going to talk about these products in the order in which I use them. First up is this Colleen Rothschild Radiant Cleansing Balm. This is like the first step in an at home facial and it is amazing. The balm is really thick and you warm it in your hands a bit before applying to your face. Then you wipe it off with warm water on the muslin cloth that comes with it. It takes off all of your makeup and just makes your skin so soft and glowing. I use this maybe every other night because I do like to take a little more time with it. It’s sold out right now, but you can sign up for E-mails for when they restock. And then you need to buy it.

Next is the Vintner’s Daughter Active Botanical Serum. I use this after I wash my face and use my toner. I’m not kidding when I tell you that this may be the only serum I ever purchase from now on, because it is incredible. It has the texture of an oil and you apply  just a few drops to your face using their push/press method. In just a couple of nights using this, I felt a difference in the luminosity of my skin, my pores felt smaller and it makes your skin feel SO soft and healthy. It’s not cheap but is totally worth the money and I highly recommend it.

Finally, this Skinceuticals Triple Lipid Restore Moisturizer. I really wanted a nice, thick moisturizer for evenings and this is another discovery that my become a staple in my routine all year round. It is incredibly hydrating, with some anti-aging properties and I feel like it has really helped the texture of my skin be a little bit smoother. I’ll also use this one for daytime if I need a little extra hydration, but then you do need to make sure you’re wearing sunscreen (which is why I top it with this).

I’ve always really enjoyed using Tata Harper products (I really got into trying them when I was pregnant and wanted to use more natural products), and these two are new-to-me over the last two months.

This Boosted Contouring Eye Mask is one of my favorites. Since I feel like I’m always tired (currently thanks to baby teething), the appearance of my eyes is a big concern for me. This product is to lift and hydrate. You put it around your eye area for 10 minutes or so and then wipe off the excess. I’ve actually slept in it without wiping off and felt that the area around my eyes was very hydrated and I liked the results.

For those of you who have tried the Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask and liked it, this limited-edition Honey Blossom Resurfacing Mask is the next one you should try. If you haven’t tried the original but want even more in the way of brightness and hydration, then go for this one too (honestly, it’s worth trying both because they are excellent). It has raw honey from the Tata Harper farm in Vermont, so that’s the biggest difference. And let me tell you, the product says “for an instant glow” on it and they absolutely mean it. When I need a little boost for my skin and even for my mood, this is the mask I pick. It really makes your skin feel and look great.  I do this maybe once a week, or if I have a big occasion or the night before I’m doing a photo shoot for the blog.
