Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are ready to kick off a happy, successful and stylish 2017.

Last week was a much needed break from blogging for me. I spent most of the time organizing the closets around my house (followed by several Goodwill drop-offs), cleaning out my desk and, finally, brainstorming, planning, scheming and goal setting for the blog and my marketing business (which I hope to tell you more about as the year goes on).

Last year at this time, I felt very much in limbo. We were waiting on the arrival of our sweet little Dylan and were just so unsure of what life as a family of four would bring. The rest of the year was a lot of learning, change and challenge around exactly that. As we get into this new year I’m so at peace with where our family is today and, I’m feeling more like myself than I have in two years. It’s a good place to be and I’m thankful for the support of my family, friends and readers that helped me get back to this happy place.

Because of last year’s limbo status, I didn’t make a New Year’s resolution, I just crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. This year, I have a lot of little goals around getting back into shape and refining my personal style. I also have very specific goals (which I took the time to commit to paper this year!) when it comes to our house projects, my businesses and other personal things, but these are a few of my resolutions for 2017:

  • Get Out // After a year with a new baby and working at home, I’ve found it to be way too easy to stay at home all day. Aside from going to workout, I’m not very social and I’d like to change that. To start, I plan on working outside of my house at a coffee shop or something one day a week. I also want to get out and involved in the community, so I’ve already re-joined Junior League and am looking to get involved in other organizations, as well. On this same note, I’d like to put myself out there a little more with you all by sharing more on Instagram stories or in video. I’ve seen it be a great way to interact and I’d like to do more of it!
  • Drink More Water // I really could sit and drink coffee or La Croix all day long without touching a real glass of water, and that’s probably not good. Clint and I have already started working on this one over the last couple of weeks. He picked up these RTIC tumblers for us (which are just like Yeti tumblers, but half the price) and we have the 20 and 30 oz. versions. My goal is to fill up my 20 oz tumbler three times a day as a baseline amount.
  • Take Time for Myself // I’ve found that, especially since becoming a mom to two kids, it’s tough to take time for myself. Since I had Dylan I have even changed my hair appointments to be “express” appointments where I just get my color put on, rinsed out and I leave with wet hair because I feel like it will take me less time to do it myself at home (and I can throw in laundry or do something while I’m in the process of doing my hair). I’d like to set aside just one or two times a month where I go get my nails done, get a massage, or just head out to lunch with a friend. And during that time, I want to put my phone away and just focus on the moment, not about my next blog post or what I need to do at home. Just let it be about where I am, who I’m with and the benefit of what I’m doing.
  • Read More // Clint gave me a book that he liked so that I could take it to read at Jackson’s gymnastics classes. I’m a pretty fast reader and I’m still only about half-way through the book because that little 30 minute a week reading session just wasn’t enough. We are going to do a little digital detoxing around here (more on that in a later post) and in lieu of phone time, I’d like to get back to reading in the evenings. I love when people share their reading lists, and I actually would like to try to check out some new books and know that I’ll have time to finish and enjoy them.

Overall, I really plan on making my entire year about presence and focus, two things I haven’t really had in a while. This includes taking both of my businesses more seriously and going to the next level with them, disconnecting from the world of work when it’s family time and planning special things just for the time with my family, and just overall being more conscious of the world around me.

Most of all, I’m just looking forward to a year of doing what I love, things that make me happy and just enjoying the adventures ahead.

I want to tell you all that I’m thankful for you and your support and readership for these many years I’ve been blogging. I know I haven’t always been consistent (another resolution!), but you have been and I thank you very much for that. I hope that this is the year we communicate even more. If you like something please tell me, if you hate something, tell me that too. I love writing this blog and putting together content for you, so always feel free to leave me a comment, send an E-mail or a note on Instagram or Facebook.

I look forward to another happy, successful and stylish year with you and and wish all good things for you as we head into 2017!

Such great goals! Mine is to be present too. I have 2 kids as well, and I also work from home, so it can be very challenging to manage my time. Now that I have a blog, I have no set hours whatsoever for working and I fell like it’s taking a toll on my family relationships! No cool. I love reading everyone’s goals. They always inspire me so much! Thanks for sharing 🙂

This is the cutest winter look! I love your goals for the year, too! I have some very similar ones (drinking a la croix right now…should have gone with water!).
