Now that it’s been about a month since I started adding regular health and fitness content to the site, I thought it was about time for a postpartum workout progress update. If you’re on the same journey, I’d love to hear how things are going for you and what you’ve been doing that has worked well for you!
When we last checked in, I was weighing 135. That was down from 155, which is what I weighed on the day that Dylan was born. Pretty good progress, although still 20 lbs away from my goal. I weighed myself yesterday and came in at 130. It’s not as good as I would have hoped by this point, but its progress. I’m only weighing myself about once a month so I don’t get too into the numbers, but rather stay focused on how I feel and how my clothes are fitting.
Speaking of clothes, I was in my pre-pregnancy jeans when Jackson was 3 months old and I’m not there yet after having Dylan, which got me a little discouraged. But I’ve tried them a few times in the last couple of weeks and I’m getting closer! Truth be told, I wasn’t in the size I wanted to be before I got pregnant but I’m hoping to get closer to that now.
I ended up signing up for the Pure Barre baby bounce back program (which at my local studio is 3 months unlimited) and have been working to go to classes at least 3 days a week, including at least one Platform class day. I really like having a consistency program at the studio because it seems to make it easier for me to plan my classes further ahead. Clint and I try to alternate 5:30 AM workouts during the week so we each have a couple of turns to get our workout in before we start our day.
It’s nice to have a partner in this, so Clint and I also decided that we want to run a 5K some time this summer. I started doing Couch to 5K with an app on my phone and I really like it. I have a Morton’s Neuroma (essentially some nerve damage) in my right foot, plus a bad knee, so I have to really try not to overdo it. The program I’m doing is 3 running days a week and I think combining that with the strengthening I’m doing at Pure Barre will work well together and it has so far.
Now that the weather is nice, we are also trying to get outside more as a family for walks/bike rides at night. The Easter Bunny brought Jackson a new bike and he’s always up for taking a ride so the four of us (and the dog) always love to take a couple of loops around the neighborhood in the evening.
With the exception of a few down days here and there (which is to be expected), I’ve been feeling really good! I feel stronger than I have in a long time, but as I said, I do get a little discouraged because I’m not losing weight and fitting into my old clothing as quickly as I would like to. I really do have to keep reminding myself that it took 9 months to put on the weight, and it was for a damn good reason. So if it takes a little longer for it to come off, that’s really okay.
Overall, the workouts have really helped with keeping me sane and balanced and I do enjoy that hour or so I have to myself to focus on me.
Because some days I’m not sure when I’m going to go workout, or when I come home from a 5:30 AM class and have a few minutes to shower and get ready before the boys wake up, I’ve been spending a lot of days in workout clothes. I am, however, at least trying to keep them coordinated and comfortable so that I look put together when we head out on errands (I’m also in the process of officially launching my marketing business so there are lots of errands right now!).
The outfit I’m wearing in today’s post is one of my favorites. It’s all T by Talbots and it is so comfortable. I really like wearing this line from Talbots because the fabrics are all a good weight, they’re soft and comfortable and you can really mix and match a lot of the pieces. I especially love this jacket
