Last year was the year of the renovation, both of our home and yard, and every project was a BIG project. While we still have some big projects on our long-term “home to do” list (the basement, the garage, etc.), we are really looking forward to taking on some smaller decorating projects to make this house a home.
Today I’m partnering with World Market to focus on one of those decorating projects, and a pretty important one: the entryway. My goal is to make our entryways, both at the front and back doors, inviting and to reflect the style of the rest of the home, all while adding some of our personality into the design. Because this house is so old, I feel like everyone in town knows someone who has lived in it, but when anyone walks in now, I want it to just be very much “us.”
I like the idea of creating a little vignette in your entryway and it’s good to start with the basics, including a console table with plenty of display space. Adding a chair (or try this one to add some color) gives you another spot to add color or style, all while adding function. A mirror helps to open up a smaller space.
We have a semi-flush mount chandelier in our foyer, but I like having lamps on my console table, either to add more light or to be a softer light in the evenings. Candles are also a nice addition, and these LED Pillar Candles are really nice in that they are easy to turn on and leave “lit” and safe, especially with curious little hands around!
One thing I want to get better at is adding family photos around the house and also picking up things from our travels to display around the house. As I mentioned in my bookshelf post last week, I got rid of the dark frames, but I love the lighter, textured options I’ve found at World Market. And don’t get me started on initials and monograms, because as far as I’m concerned, the more the better.
You can continue to add personality to your entryway with a pop of color. How fun is this pineapple doormat? I’m a little into a terrarium phase right now, and I think this vase would look cool with bright and fresh greens or a pop of pink flowers.
