Stay at Home Style: Mixed Prints

I’m SO excited to officially launch this Stay at Home Style series!

Confession: I never really planned on being a stay-at-home mom, nor did I really ever want to become one. When we were living in Houston, I loved my job, working and getting dressed every day. The move to Michigan brought a lot of good things and a lot of change, including my transition out of my agency job to staying at home with Jackson/working at home on this blog and my marketing consulting projects. I truly couldn’t feel luckier to be able to have the time I have with Jackson along with time to do things I really love and never thought I would do.

During this transition, I got stuck in a major “yoga pants all day, every day” rut. I realize that wearing workout gear every day sounds pretty good when you’re getting dressed to go to the office, and that’s what I thought until I did it. Every. Day. Recently I started feeling like I was losing my style, and really a bit of myself, and so I made a New Year’s resolution to get dressed. Sounds simple, right? Well, when you don’t have to get dressed for the day, it’s easy not to.

That’s where this series comes from. This series is for all of us who stay at home to work or to be with our kids (or both!) and I hope to inspire you to add some more style to your day and to continue to stay true to yourself and your style, no matter what your day looks like. Sometimes we’ll talk about brands and outfits, sometimes we’ll talk about specific items that are “stay at home” must-haves from makeup, accessories and random tips, but I hope you love the series and stay tuned. If there’s something you want to see or if you have questions, leave them in comments or E-mail me. Also I hope you’ll share your Stay At Home Style with me by using #StayAtHomeStyle on your social channels!

For the first installment of this series, I’m partnering with Shop BURU to share this look with some mixed prints. Shop BURU is one of my favorite shops in general, but one of the things I especially love about the site is that everything is curated with busy, stylish moms in mind. There is everything from elastic waist pants (that are NOT workout gear) and breast feeding-accessible tops and dresses to washable styles, which are really good for anyone at any stage.

Prints can be intimidating, but I really love that mixing them can elevate your style. I kept it pretty simple with this look by keeping it all in black and white, but you could easily add color on top or even with jewelry. Stripes are always easy to start with, and then you can get a little crazier as you get more comfortable with mixing!

What I love most about this outfit:

  • Rachel Pally knows how to make comfortable clothing! This skirt is stretchy and SO soft that it almost feels like you’re wearing cozy sweats (but with a more dressed up look!)
  • You can dress this up or down, and it will transition well to spring by throwing on a tank or tee with it.
  • The skirt is long enough to move around and chase around, if needed, without any flashing!

Shop the look:
Comme Des Garcons Tee (less expensive version that I love here) // Rachel Pally Skirt c/o Shop BURU (on sale!) // Spanx Tights // Michael Kors Booties (similar here) // BaubleBar earrings // David Yurman Ring
