Our First Cookout

We finally hosted our first cookout at our new house over the weekend as a kickoff to our very long 4th of July weekend (it sort of starts today). We recently finished the renovation of our entire yard, so this is also a little peek at what we did to the patio – I’ll do a more thorough before and after post later, because you really need to see what it used to look like to appreciate how far it has come. Anyway, as I think I mentioned, we just picked up our new grill a couple of weeks ago, so it was nice to be able to show off our Clint’s grilling skills for our family.

On the Table:
I picked up a bunch of things from World Market last week to get our table looking good for the gathering. I picked an aqua blue as the color to accent with and was able to get some outdoor wine glasses, napkins, chargers and a couple of trays for around $100. Our everyday dishes are white, so it makes it easy to just buy a few new things and bring a whole new look to the table. I also finally got to use my Lettermade cocktail napkins, which I just love. Now that we have the space to entertain, I’d like to do more of it!

On the Menu:
  • Kabobs: Our own “recipes” of chicken marinated in Italian dressing and sirloin seasoned with smoked chipotle Tabasco, salt, pepper and a dash of Tony Chachere’s Cajun seasoning
  • Sangria: Recipe via Rachael Ray
  • Spicy Snickerdoodles: Recipe via The Homesick Texan’s Family Table (let’s just call these the only snickerdoodles that I will ever make forever – they’re so good!)
  • Chipotle Bacon Scalloped Potatoes: Recipe via The Homesick Texan

What I Wore:
I prepped everything ahead of time to avoid mess and so that I could actually get dressed and not worry about making a mess of myself while everyone was at our house. I know it’s summer but we keep our air conditioning somewhere near freakishly cold (hi Clint!) so I almost always wear some sort of wrap or sweater when I’m at home.

On me: Old Navy Romper (strapless version here, similar here and you know I still love this one) // Elaine Turner Wedges (similar) – both on sale! // Cardigan (you didn’t see it, but it’s super old and has no tag, and this one is almost identical) // C.Wonder earrings c/o // YSL Rebel Nudes Lip Stain #104 Fuchsia Tomboy

On Jackson: GAP Polo (on sale now!) // Old Navy Shorts // Stride Rite Shoes
