One of the fun perks that has come with having this blog is that cool things sometimes show up on my front porch. This Urban Decay Born to Run Collection is one of those really cool things that I felt lucky to get and have truly enjoyed using since I received it.
I know I’ve mentioned this before but, as a blogger, when you get these things, there’s no set obligation to post about them. I post about the really cool things I get that excite me and that I think will excite you. And after I did an unboxing of this set, several people asked me to do a post about it and share more, so here I am.
First of all, this collection was perfectly timed for me, as it arrived right before we started our big summer travels. What I’ve learned that I love about Urban Decay is that the products are really long-wearing and I’ve been very impressed by the quality. I honestly also like that I can restock at Ulta super easily, which is great especially as someone who lives in a smaller town with a bit of a drive to a major department store.
As far as Urban Decay palettes go, I do think they have some of the best. I think they create palettes that are super versatile, can be demure or daring and I’ve been impressed by the long-wearing quality of them, as well. I use the Naked palette as an everyday look pretty often, the Naked Heat palette is a little warmer and is great for fall, and I feel like this Born to Run palette has something for everyone.
I will say that the Born to Run palette is absolutely beautiful but it is also a bit intimidating. I’d like to be a little more daring and use some of the brighter colors in it, but I started with warm neutrals and will work my way toward the blues, greens and purples (especially as we get to fall!). But to get myself started, I stuck with the shimmery, bronzy neutrals. It just seems to fit my beauty vibe for the summer.
The eyeliners in this collection were also really awesome. I used the bronzed brown (Double Life) to line my eyelids in this look and then did the metallic burnt orange (Lucky) on my lower lash line for a really subtle accent.
I have to admit that I was pretty skeptical that a setting spray actually did anything but the All-Nighter spray has proved me wrong. I wore it on a photo shoot with Ashley in a 90 degree day (hey, no laughs from you, Texas friends, it was hot by Michigan standards!), to an outdoor evening fundraiser at our local zoo, and then just last week during some seriously intense children’s dancing at our 4th of July party. My makeup totally held up and I came home without smears, smudging or sweat marks on my face. I also HIGHLY recommend getting the Chill Cooling + Hydrating Setting Spray for summer. It’s completely as effective and is supposed to have a cooling effect for the surface of your makeup. I honestly didn’t think either really worked, but they both do and they are amazing!
As a last note on this post, let’s talk about my double striped outfit. I got this super cute skort at my sister-in-law’s online shop and I have worn it several times. It’s super comfortable and you’ll be surprised at how many things it goes with. My print mixing isn’t very daring so stripes is about as crazy as I get over here. I did love it with this equally comfortable Duffield Lane tee, which is lightweight and perfect for summer!
