Sleep Hygiene Makeover

Thank you to AllerEase for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.

This year has been the year of projects that may have gotten a little bit out of control. We did some work on our basement for storage closets, our yard got mini-makeover, my office is almost complete (more on that soon!), and the last thing we’re going to do for now is our bedroom. Our bedroom has been a low priority on the list for a long time, but we finally decided to start doing at least a little work on it to make it a more comfortable, cozy and stylish space that we will love spending time in.

For so many reasons, a good night’s sleep is hard to come by around here, and I know we’re not alone in that. Between craziness with the boys, work stress and the general busy season of life we’re living in, we’ve got plenty of things that can keep us up at night. So creating a comfortable, clean and nice-looking bed, was clearly the first bedroom project that we needed to take on.

When it comes to our bed, we started right at the base and making sure that is optimal for getting a good night’s sleep. We got a new mattress a few months back and that was a great start. The next step for us was to make sure that we’re taking care our mattress and keeping our space clean and healthy. So when AllerEase offered to send along some of their products for us to try, I was excited to accept them and quickly put them to use in our room!

You hear so much about dust mites, pollen and other allergens being so irritating, but they can actually disturb your sleep when they settle in and make a home in your mattress. I never really had an allergy issue when we lived in Texas, but here in Michigan I’ve definitely noticed it more as seasons change. Clint has had lifelong environmental allergies, so I thought before that having a mattress protector on our bed can be really beneficial for both of us and not only our sleep, but overall health.

Oh and since we also sleep with a pretty big allergan, Harlow (who decided she wanted to be part of this post), it’s nice to know that we’ve got our bed covered from things she may bring along with her.

With AllerEase, our whole bed got a bit of a sleep hygiene makeover, starting with that mattress protector. As a side note, I wondered if it would feel different under our sheets, but it’s completely unnoticeable, as are the pillow protectors we started using. We also switched out our old comforter (I actually forgot how old it was, so I’m not sure that’s a good sign!) to an AllerEase comforter. It’s a great weight (perfect right now and feels like it will be warm for winter) and will be perfect under our new bedding, but it is also hypoallergenic and is washable in hot water.

I like the feeling that pieces you’d have on your bed anyway are working to help keep you healthy and may even help you sleep better. Plus, having all of these new items on our bed has made it feel clean, fresh and comfortable, and it’s been an amazing way to start our bedroom makeover – now if only I could commit to a color scheme this easily!
