As every new month arrives this year I keep saying “I can’t believe it’s INSERT MONTH HERE” and now it’s June?! Summer is about to get busy and interesting for us with Jackson being out of school for summer for the first time ever. So, we’re working on making lots of plans to keep everyone happily occupied and entertained.
With Father’s Day coming up, we’re taking the same philosophy of happy entertainment and Jackson and I wanted to share a gift idea for Dad that would make for a day or weekend of fun as a family. We love trying out new destinations and activities and one thing we’ve never done as a family is go to a golf tournament. The boys have had their little kid golf sets out in the back yard already, and fortunately, there’s a great way to share dad’s love of golf just right nearby!
The Meijer LPGA Classic is in Grand Rapids at the Blythefield Country Club from June 12-17 and is set up perfectly for the entire family. Not only will they have world-class LPGA golfers competing, but they also have a really cool Discovery Land area that will feature STEM activities and Nickelodeon, Hasbro and Universal Studios characters – and there’s also going to be a station to make Father’s Day cards! It’s free to anyone with a tournament ticket and kids under 17 get into the tournament for free.
Not only is the Meijer LPGA Classic a fun event, but it is also one that gives back. The tournament benefits the Simply Give program which provides food to neighborhood food pantries across the Midwest. Previous tournaments have generated more than $3.1 million for the Simply Give program and it’s amazing how far that money goes and how many people can be fed and will benefit from this initiative.
Since the tournament takes place over the Father’s Day weekend, making the family experience a Father’s Day gift would be a great idea! Jackson and I thought that it would be fun to make a little gift bag with a few surprises, including updating dad’s golf bag with some new golf balls, tees, the absolutely essential sunscreen and tickets to the tournament as part of it! One little trip to Meijer got us everything we needed as far as golf balls and a new glove (event tickets are also available in all Meijer Michigan stores!). We also included a hat and picked up some of the cutest cards. Jackson is a big fan of cards and dinosaurs so along with a dino card, he insisted that we include a homemade card of Dad playing golf.
Meijer is giving away two tickets to the Grand Taste event to one lucky reader! At Grand Taste you can check out food and beverages from local restaurants, breweries and Meijer vendors, along with live music and chef demonstrations. Just enter on the widget below and we will announce the winner next Wednesday, June 7.
