Happy Monday, friends!
Things have been wild around here lately, some good, some stressful, some in-between, but just lots and lots of things happening. Last week we got thrown off a bit by a midnight call on Sunday letting us know that our school district was closed on Monday due to a threat circulating on social media. Midday on Monday we learned that the threat couldn’t be substantiated, and that schools were safe to return to the next day. Fortunately it turned out that way but my goodness it stressed me out so much that I can’t imagine what those parents in Florida last month, or any parents in any past school shooting, have had to feel. This whole thing is weighing heavily on my mind lately and I’ll try to leave it at that for now.
On a positive note, I’m happy to be in a new month and ever so slightly closer to spring. We have lots of fun things planned this month including Clint’s birthday and a trip to Disney that the boys don’t know anything about yet. We’ve decided not to tell them until probably the week before we leave, in hopes that they won’t have that long to wait and that it will keep things more calm around here. We’ll see how that goes.
I’ve also been planning out our summer schedule and getting Jackson into some summer camps, swim lessons and activities. I had no idea that this required so much forethought and planning!
Gosh and with all of this, I know I keep saying it but I’d really like to get more blog content coming your way. I enjoy writing it so much and I have a lot in my mind, it’s just finding the time to get it into a post and shared!
So today, I thought I’d share some things that I’ve been inspired by lately and that are making me happy amid all of the crazy:
Meghan Markle’s Blue Dress
I have royal wedding fever for sure! I’m completely obsessed and have already tried to think of how i can ditch my kids the morning of the actual event so I can watch it live but I’m not positive that’s happening.
What actually is happening for me is some style inspiration. I still strive to not spend my days in yoga pants, but that hasn’t been happening as often as I’d like. So all of my Spring shopping is being done with the idea that I’m buying pieces that are easily worn every day and are comfortable but more put together. More on that soon.
But what I loved this week was the Jason Wu wrap dress that Meghan Markle wore at the forum that they all spoke at. The price tag is beyond a NO for me, but I did find a few inspired styles that would do the job for me. My top pick is this dress from Banana Republic (paired with these shoes), but this jumpsuit (which is even better in person – I saw it at the store) is a great option, plus it’s on sale, and then this J.Crew dress has a similar vibe with the wrap but has long sleeves
My everyday jewelry consists of pearl earrings (which were a gift from Clint), the “Mama” necklace I had custom made by Retrouvai paired with my diamonds by the yard necklace (also a gift from Clint), my 5 year wedding band and this Missoma ring. And if you’ve been around here a while, you know I never take off my Apple Watch, the steps, calories and stand goals keep me going!
I used to never wear gold jewelry but I’ve really liked mixing things up a bit and wearing pieces with my silver jewelry. I’m looking at picking up this Missoma necklace for layering, this Julie Vos bracelet and these Lisi Lerch earrings too!
Cauliflower Rice Recipes
We’ve been on a pretty good health kick with our recipes lately and one thing that has been a huge hit is cauliflower rice with nearly everything. I’m a carb fan for sure, so I’ll never cut them out entirely (same with sweets) but with what we’ve been making for our lunches and dinners, I don’t even miss them!
Last week for lunch bowls I made this Tikka Masala in the slow cooker and this weekend I’m doing this chicken coconut curry. We also love the Green Giant Cauliflower Medley rice (which is just at all the grocery stores, nothing fancy but so good!) as fried “rice” with seared tuna.
Along with getting dress more often, I’m working on a minimal, dewey makeup look that I’ll wear this spring/summer on the weekends and the days that I’ll have the boys at home int he summer.
I used to wear this Laura Mercier radiance primer a lot, but it ran out and for some reason I didn’t restock it. I’m going to grab it again for summer though, it’s super light and it’s great for light weekend coverage or underneath your foundation when you’re dressing up
Speaking of glow, L’Oreal was kind enough to send me their LUMI collection in all of its dewy, glowy goodness. There are highlighters and palettes and so many pretty things. The one I’ve liked best so far has been the Glow Boosting Drops which you can put in your foundation or use on their own. This palette is also really pretty and I”m going to give it a test run when we’re in Florida.
For lips, I also got a cool “nudes” package from Urban Decay with their Vice lipsticks and the super pretty Naked palette. I love the lipsticks! They last all day, and the nudes are really really pretty. My favorites were Backtalk (which was a little more purple-y) and Stark Naked (a pinky brown nude).
March is National Reading Awareness Month
We’re big readers around here and have really focused on the importance of being a good reader with both of our boys. We’re really proud of how awesome Jacksons does at his reading and we love how much his school emphasizes it too.
March is National Reading Awareness Month and I want to help encourage and support more reading for all of our kids! On Instagram a while back I asked for book recommendations and got a great response, so on my Shop page, you’ll find some of those recommendations, as well as our favorites. I will be donating any commission made from sales to Reading is Fundamental.
If you have any additional book recommendations, please leave them in comments or send them my way and I will add them to the shop!
