2018: Beauty & Style Resolutions

beauty resolutions 2018

Happy New Year! We are finishing up our little mini-vacation up here today and heading home to get back to our normal routine. It has been fun to be up here in ALL the snow and spend some outside time with the boys. Jackson and Dylan head back to school tomorrow and amid all the craziness, I do have to admit, I’m ready to get back to a regular schedule and focus on my goals for the new year.

This week, I’m going to be sharing my New Year’s resolutions and some goals I have here on the blog. Each day is a new theme, so today I wanted to start with something a little bit light and fun: beauty and style. Last year was a big transition year for me and now that I’m working full-time again and working on the blog, I feel like I need to up my style game just a bit. So here’s what I’ve got on my list of “to dos” for beauty and style in 2018:

Beauty Clean Out

To kick things off, I’m going to do a major clean out of my beauty drawer(s). I tend to keep things like eyeshadow palettes and things for YEARS on the off chance that I will, one day, need them or want to wear them. I mean seriously, I do not need 15 eyeshadow palettes. I’m decent at makeup but I wear the same thing nearly all the time these days.

My overall goal, in general, is to simplify and organize at our house and in life, so this is a great place for me to start. Plus, it’ll probably be healthier to be sure I have my newest, most used products and no old, potentially expired ones hanging out.

Paint my Nails

This is something I am HORRIBLE at doing. I never paint my nails and I really have the worst, old lady elf hands that would look 1000x better if I would just do my nails and regularly apply hand lotion. I would also really like to actually use my collection of nail polish. It’s embarrassing how many polish bottles I have and have never opened, so I’m going to work on changing that.

I got started on this one a little bit early by creating a “manicure kit” for myself. I’m going to do a separate post on this after I actually do my nails regularly for a while to make sure I can actually recommend the products that I purchased. But, I bought things like cuticle eraser, cuticle oil, nail strengthener, base coat, top coat, lotion, etc. and put them all in a cute cosmetic bag so that I can just pull it out on a Sunday afternoon, paint my nails and be ready to start my week. I’d like to do my nails once a week so that they start looking nice, and maybe even they’ll grow better!

Green My Routine

I’d really like to start integrating some more natural products into my skincare and makeup routine. I don’t plan on making everything natural. I will continue with my Botox, color my hair and use the brands that I love like Le Metier de Beaute, TULA and Colleen Rothschild, but I would like to establish some balance with some natural products, as well.

I love Tata Harper and they sent a beautiful box of products to try just before Christmas and I’m going to get some of those into my regular rotation. I also found RMS Beauty over the holidays and I’m planning on ordering a few things to try for everyday makeup.

If you have any natural skincare and makeup brands that you love, please leave me a comment or send them my way via E-mail or on Instagram! I’d love to learn about more!

Get Dressed

It’s a little weird for me to say as a “style blogger” but I find that I spend a lot of time just in my workout gear or whatever I throw on in the morning. On a day that I spend at my computer, I always say it’s just easier. But truly, it takes as much time for me to put on yoga pants and a sweatshirt as it does to throw on jeans and a sweater. Or even a dress. Actually that probably takes less time, so maybe that’s what I should do.

I was hoping that doing “Everyday Outfits” on Facebook would hold me accountable but it really didn’t. I will try to do that again but mostly I just want to feel more confident and put together. I know I’m more productive when I’m dressed professionally, so I would really like to focus on getting dressed every day. It sounds like an easy goal, but it’s definitely something to work on for me!

Shop Smart

I love to shop. I do. I really really love to shop. There, I said it. Now, I don’t plan on stopping my shopping but I do want to re-think how I shop. I want to buy things with intention, and by thinking about what that piece will add to my wardrobe, what else it will go with and why I need it before I actually click “order now.”

Will there still be silly, frivolous purchases? I’m sure there will be. But I’m paring down my closet right now in hopes that it doesn’t fill up quickly, but rather that what’s there are pieces that I really love and wear all the time.

So that’s my first round of goals and resolutions for 2018! Do you all have style goals or resolution that you plan on working on this year?

Up tomorrow: Health & Fitness resolutions!
