My Favorite Winter Coat

the best winter coat

I’m going to regret saying this but, where’s all the snow?

I mean, seriously. If it’s going to be this cold, I’d really prefer it to be really snowy, as well. I love the way our house looks in the snow, Jackson gets all excited to go out and play in the snow and I’m also hoping to get a little ski warm up in before we go to Park City next month. Needless to say, I’m a bit jealous of all of you who got snow this weekend and posted it on Instagram.

Okay, now that’s out of the way. Would someone please remind me in March when we’re up to our ears in snow that I wanted this to happen? Thanks.

I’ve mentioned before that I’m very much in favor of splurging on winter coats. I keep them for years and will wear them until they fall apart, so in my mind they’re totally worth it. J.Crew has had this coat around for a few years and really wanted to buy it last winter, but I wasn’t sure what size to get because I was so pregnant. Although I was hoping I’d quickly be a smaller size after having Dylan, I didn’t want to spend that kind of money on a coat that I wouldn’t be able to wear (possibly ever?). This year, during that big 40% off sale that J.Crew had around Thanksgiving, I had some birthday money, so I finally pulled the trigger and I’m so glad that I did because it’s very easily my favorite winter coat.

This coat is really warm, has a great “not too heavy” wearable weight, and gets compliments wherever I wear it. It also comes in black, as well as the “Nordic” version, which is a water-resistant fabric – probably good if you live somewhere really snowy. I plan on taking mine to Park City in February for my “around town” coat and I know it’ll be perfect!

Another birthday buy? This Gucci crossbody bag. I sort of save big bag buys for my birthday and this year, I really wanted a red crossbody bag and this was it. It fits my abnormally overstuffed wallet, phone and other essentials. I don’t carry it when I have the kids but I do love it for when I’m running errands or dressing up. I chose red because I wanted a different sort of neutral. I have black, tan and gray bags but I thought this would be a nice, rich pop of color and I’ve been amazed at how versatile it is.

Hahah oh you’ve done it now – I said the same thing last week about the weather “it’s cold, so where’s the snow” and then we got nearly a foot dumped on us at the end of the week! But truly, it’s been so fun to see the winter wonderland outside, and I know it won’t last forever! You look totally prepared for a snow storm in that cozy coat! I should’ve added it to my list of coats to buy in today’s post haha!
