I like to think of myself as a pretty organized person, especially when it comes to travel.
But when it comes to traveling with my jewelry, it’s fair to say I’ve been a little careless and recently learned my lesson. On one of our summer trips, I managed to lose one of the earrings from the set that Clint gave me for our wedding. I tried and tried to find it but never did. Thankfully, it was insured so we were able to replace it, but that whole “throw all of your jewelry into one little case haphazardly” thing that I was doing has definitely changed.
And with holiday travel season coming up, I wanted to share a few tips for traveling with jewelry that I’m going to be using when we’re on the go!
To start, I picked up a couple of jewelry organizers to keep everything in good order. This one from Vera Bradley is really great because it has so many compartments and I don’t have to worry about necklaces getting tangled and I can keep sets of things together. I also grabbed a couple of these cute Kate Spade bauble bags for extra pieces to keep inside my big organizer.
I like to keep my jewelry in my carry-on for air travel, along with any handbags, so that it’s always within my reach and sight. I personally feel that it’s safer this way and I don’t have to be concerned about something important being my checked luggage on the off chance it gets lost or doesn’t make it to my destination at the same time as I do (hey, it happens).
Something we’ve always done is make sure that our important jewelry is insured. No matter how careful you are, accidents can happen and that’s why it’s a great idea to get coverage with a company like Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company. They’ve been in the business for more than 100 years, so they’ve heard it all and can provide worldwide coverage for loss or repair for the pieces of jewelry that mean so much to you.
