Just before Labor Day weekend, I was so thrilled to be invited to attend a fall fashion preview event hosted by Meijer. For those of you who are not Midwest-based, Meijer is one of our grocery stores. For those of you who live somewhere where you’ve shopped a Super Target, that’s what I’d sort of compare it to – or at least that’s what I found most similar when we lived in Texas. You can go there (and I do at least once or twice a week) for your normal grocery and pharmacy shopping, but they have a really great home department where you can get dishes, bedding or decor items, and they also have a robust apparel department for everyone in the family. I’ve shopped there a lot for items for the boys, but hadn’t spent a ton of time looking for my own apparel, so I was excited to be invited to learn more about what Meijer had to offer!
Meijer is based in Grand Rapids, Michigan so I made a very easy two hour drive to the west side of the state. Grand Rapids is an awesome town with its proximity to the lake, great restaurants (we went to The Grove and The Wheelhouse) and walkable downtown.
Meijer was an incredible host and started things off by taking us to their headquarters, followed up by a visit to the cutest apple orchard, Robinette’s, for a picnic and some fall fashion photos. We also spent an afternoon at the Fredrick Meijer Sculpture Gardens to photograph some fall fashion trends. The gardens were absolutely gorgeous and I hope to head back there with our family and take the boys to play there next summer.
Five other fabulous Midwest-based bloggers were also there and you can find them at:
- Andrea at Blonde Bedhead
- Natalie at Natalie in the City
- Alexis at That Chic Lex
- Tieka at Selective Potential
- Candace at Live, Love & Read
At Meijer headquarters, we got to meet with the fashion team who talked with us about their key trends, and also about the planning and buying process. The whole conversation reminded me about the things I loved about in business school. I was so inspired after getting some insight into how they plan for each season and how they translate trends from the runway to the more affordable market that Meijer services. We even got a sneak peek into what’s coming in the winter and I had my eye on a couple of things I’ll be anxiously waiting to see at my store!
There were also a couple of beauty sessions with P&G brands Cover Girl and Pantene. With Cover Girl, we covered several makeup trends from dark Mod Goth Lips (my personal favorite) paired with a super simple eye to a classic smoky eye. I got my first ever fishtail braid done with Pantene and I’m going to do my very best to replicate the look at home because it was amazing! Our stylist showed us several twisted and braided trends for fall and I loved the romantic, soft imperfection of many of the styles – all doable for my mom schedule this fall (and thankfully many of them work best on “not so clean” hair).

Well, I have.), I’m partnering with Meijer today for a giveaway of a Fall Essentials Gift Box + a $100 gift card to Meijer to do a little bit of your own shopping.
