I spent the early part of this week completely focused on fall fashion. We’re talking apple orchards, plaids, sweaters and booties, and it made me even more ready for a change of season for my closet. I actually have done a little bit of fall shopping to prep for the season, but haven’t worn much of it since we’re still experiencing temps in the mid-80’s (except, coincidentally, for today which is supposed to be freaking gorgeous and in the low 70’s).
Read on to hear about my first few purchases for fall and keep going to the end for a $550 PayPal cash giveaway that runs from today through September 15. It’s a great way to get a little cash to start your fall shopping!
L.L. Bean Boat & Tote Bag // Although I don’t put this one away at any point during the year, it really is the perfect back-to-school bag. Jackson and Dylan each have one (medium size) to take their things back and forth to school. Jackson has had his for more than 3 years and I’m not even close to having to replace it. I’d actually also love to have one in a bigger size for weekend use.
Bomber Jacket // Get one, just get one. It’s a great last layer that you can wear with nearly anything. I bought this one from L.L. Bean and it has PrimaLoft lining in it, so I’m planning to wear it to Jackson’s soccer games as temps cool down (I’ll also be styling it in a bit more stylish manner on here soon). For a great buy under $100, try this one from BURU White Label. I’ve also seen these styled with some pins (try here for some options) now or a blanket scarf later, and either would add a bit more of your personality to your look.
Booties // I spent my boot money last year on a pair of knee high boots (this Stuart Weitzman pair) and was so pregnant by the time it was really boot season that I needed assistance in getting them on and off, so I barely wore them. While I plan on making up for that this year (and possibly getting this OTK style, which is a steal relatively speaking), I’m also really going to focus on picking up some new booties.
I have this cutout pair from Sole Society and I love that they’re great for right now. The cutouts allow them to be a bit more transitional, so they’re really good with cropped denim. I also bought a new pair of Bean Boots from L.L. Bean with a Thinsulate lining. Those are going to be super handy when it starts getting snowy around here. But, in my opinion, you can never go wrong with investing in a good pair of Rag & Bone booties (mine are 2 years old and show zero signs of wear), or grabbing a similar style at a more affordable price point.
Basics // Is there ever a bad time to stock up on good neutrals and basics? The answer is no. This white wrap tee from BURU White Label has sold out at least three times already and is now taking pre-orders for mid-September. I am really excited to get it and possibly layer with a little lacy cami. It also comes in charcoal gray, if you’d prefer that or want both!
When it comes to basics, I also really like these simple tees from Gap. They’re super soft and are good for now and for layering later. It also wouldn’t hurt to check out some neutral outerwear and my top pick is this everyday coat from Old Navy in camel.
“Mod Goth” Lips // One of the beauty trends that I saw earlier in the week (and LOVED) was a darker, matte lip. I’ve long been a fan of the Le Metier de Beaute Moisture Matte Lipsticks (with this lip liner formula) because the colors are really vibrant and beautiful and they last all day long. If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, I just learned about this CoverGirl Colorlicious Lipstick, which is also long wearing and very smooth. My favorite color in this one is Euphoria – gorgeous!
Chokers // I’ve talked about these before on the blog and now I’ve actually added a few to my jewelry box. I have this one from Nickel & Suede, which is more of a classic, simple style. I also bought this Kendra Scott necklace which I plan on wearing higher so it fits more like a choker. I honestly can’t believe this trend is back, but I liked it in middle school and I like it even better now that I can be a little fancier about it!
Plaids // Plaids also take me back a bit to my middle school days, but this is another fall trend that can be done in a so much more refined way. I’ve picked up a couple of tunic styles from local boutiques (similar to this one at Nordstrom). I’m also a fan of J.Crew’s plaid styles this year (this one and this one), as well as the ones at Old Navy (which are on sale all weekend).
