She Reigns

Living in Michigan again has truly made me appreciate having a good coat or few. The crazy amount of rain around here lately had me looking for a new rain jacket when a little surprise popped up on my Facebook news feed: She Reigns. I remembered seeing the brand maybe a couple of years ago and loving the chic outerwear, but then things got quiet.

A couple of weeks ago, I saw a “We’re back” message from She Reigns and immediately went back to the site to check out the jackets and find out where the brand had been. I discovered that the brand’s founder, Cathy Williamson, had been diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer and had put things on hold so she could fight back against this terribly aggressive cancer, and she won. I am so excited to share the return of She Reigns and to share Cathy’s story. I recently had the opportunity to interview her about the line, her commitment to the Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) Foundation and, of course, what brings happiness, success and style into her life:

She Reigns has the perfect, stylish rainy day coats like you really don’t see anywhere else! Where did the inspiration for the brand come from?
I was inspired to design and manufacture (in the USA) a line of fashionable outerwear, when I couldn’t find one fitting for my son’s high school football game! There weren’t any cute coats to be found, especially one with a hood and the right price point. It took me 5 years to start the line, and I took a hiatus to focus on my health, but I’m excited to relaunch the line and get it going again!

What is your go-to She Reigns coat?
I love all of the styles and wear all of them, but the one I wear the most is the Catherine in blue with black detail. I love the length and the pocket detail!

How has your fight with breast cancer changed you and your outlook on business, fashion and being a strong, inspiring woman?
Having triple negative breast cancer has made me really appreciate every day. I know that I am supposed to be here on Earth and contributing no matter what that ends up being; I have a purpose. I also want women to know that it’s never too late to start something! It took me a while, but I now have the She Reigns line and a fashion blog (The-Middle Page) that I love! Staying busy and contributing every day, where it’s through my line or the blog, is very important to me.

What can we tell readers about your commitment to supporting TNBC and how they can help?
I am so committed to helping the TNBC Foundation. This type of breast cancer is very aggressive and there isn’t a lot of information out there about how it originates. It is affecting a lot of younger women these days, and I find that very scary. I read every day about women in their 20’s and 30’s being diagnosed with this.  I got my first mammogram at 35, but I truly feel women should start getting them at age 30. I am hoping that any woman who comes across the She Reigns line or my blog will be inspired to be more diligent in checking her breasts on a monthly basis. The more money that is raised for TNBC, the more research can be done.

The HSS Feed is about happiness, success and style. What brings those three qualities into your life?
The things that make me the happiest are easy! It’s all about family and being with them, spending quality time with them. I just had my second grand baby about three weeks ago and it’s a pure joy to have these two babies around me. My success is my family! Starting a business at my age is scary, especially without formal training in design or manufacturing. If I can figure it out, other women should feel confident in trying something that they’re passionate about. It may be hard, but most things that are worth it are.

Let’s talk style for a minute. I’m wearing my favorite style, The Catherine, and it’s just the perfect run around town jacket. I really love having a hood to help preserve my blow out on a rainy or windy day and the bright blue color is great. I also love the capes that you’ll find at She Reigns. There is the Game Day Cape, in several team-appropriate colors, and the Patricia, which has some more neutrals (I like the stone/yellow combo best) but still the same style.

During the month of October, 25% of all sales at She Reigns will go to the TNBC Foundation and you can use the code TNBC1014 to get 25% off. It’s great style for a great cause and you know you need a new jacket.
