Happiness, Success and Style by…Katy Atlas

Katy Atlas is a New Yorker turned Texan whose delightful blog, Sugarlaws, is based here in Houston. I met her through a group of blogger friends, it turns out we share the same colorist and she is just as sweet and stylish as her blog name implies. Katy is another super busy girl, she’s an author (of two novels!) with a full-time job and full-time blog, so I’m thrilled that she took some time to share what brings happiness success and style into her life, read on for more:

I am happiest when…
I’m at home with Chad and our two dogs!

Where is your favorite place to relax and where is your favorite place to be productive?
I have a spare bedroom in our house that doubles as my Sugarlaws “office” — but I usually end up doing most of my work on the couch in our family room.  It’s both relaxing and productive at the same time!

I daydream about…
Shopping, eating, a real vacation!  Not necessarily in that order. 🙂

How do you define success?
I spend a lot of time trying to make everything the best I can do, rather than trying to live up to goals that are out of my control.  When you’re putting your best work out into the world, good things are bound to come back to you!

The person I admire most is…
I find Steve Jobs hugely inspirational — whenever I’m frustrated with the ups and downs of life, I read his Stanford Commencement speech, have a good cry, and then work harder at whatever was frustrating me.

What are your wardrobe essentials or go to outfit?
Ever since moving to Texas, shorts are a huge staple for me!  You basically never find me without a pair of denim shorts on the weekends.  And  I’m 5’2” so I’m always in heels and platforms!

The best style advice I’ve ever received is…
If you don’t feel good in it, you don’t look good in it.  Always go with your gut and choose something that you feel great wearing — confidence is 90% of style.

I’m obsessed with collecting/purchasing…
It’s a tough call between shoes and bags, but probably bags!  The ex-New Yorker in me is always afraid of ruining my shoes by walking in them, but I assume that my grandkids will be able to carry my good handbags.

What brings happiness, success and style into your life?
So many different things!  It’s been incredibly exciting to buy a house and start to turn it into our dream home, and obviously spending time with our families and the puppies.  As far as success and style, my life has changed so much in the past few years that I try to just roll with everything that comes along — it’s completely unpredictable and incredibly exciting!

Thanks so much to Katy for participating in this series! Keep up with Sugarlaws here, on Facebook and follow Katy on Twitter here
