Late last summer, I was honored to be a part of the Spring 2013 (which launched on her website today!) fan photo shoot for designer, Sheridan French. When I found Sheridan's collection and blog (The Southern Eclectic) awhile back, I became an instant fan. Being a part of her Spring photo shoot was so exciting, not only did I get a sneak peek of the collection, but I also got to meet the lovely and talented Sheridan. She's a mom, savvy businesswoman and designer, and is incredibly sweet - all of which makes me really admire her.
I was fortunate enough to get to ask Sheridan a few questions about the new collection and how she balances everything she's got going on.
HSS: What is the inspiration behind your Spring collection?
SF: I wanted to take travel a step further than my go-to ikat, so I took a nod from India and incorporated exotic animals and more tile-esque prints; elephants, alligators, and my logo in a repeating pattern really spoke to me this year! As always, everything is infused with super saturated colors. The bead work is truly incredible in this collection as well.
HSS: Where is your ideal place to wear your Spring collection?
SF: Anywhere I can have a cocktail with an umbrella in it! Even if I'm in Texas, as long as I am wearing one of my designs and have a margarita in one hand, I feel like I am on vacation!
HSS: There are a lot of new, fun styles and prints in the Sheridan French line for Spring. Which one is your personal favorite?
SF: Well of course I cannot pick just one! The simplicity of the alligator really appeals to me, though I love the feeling of the India Floral pattern, particularly in the larger version of it. I never tire of ikat though!
HSS: How do you balance motherhood, your clothing line and everything else you have going on?
I don't! There has to be so much give and take. I end up being at the office for just a few hours a week, and work a lot from my laptop in bed at night once the kids are down. There is always something to be done, so it comes down to a choice as to what I am going to focus on and when. My kids are always always always ahead of work on that totem pole!
HSS: What brings happiness, success & style into your life?
SF: God first, family second, work third. If I keep it in that order, things always have a way of falling into place and happiness, success and style work their way in :)
